Wow, what a great site. Saw many names as cruising through the posts. I figured it's about time I post. I was in 133 "A Co" from 73-75 went to Oki with great people, Earl Poe, Gerald Kelly (deceased now, Miss you Kelly) St. Louis, "Yogi" Bates.I had the greatest duty as far as I was concerned. I was Commander Dobler's driver when he was killed in PI, and had the pleasure of drinking beers and coctails with Commador "Capt" Mitchell, who was killed in PI also with Lt. Jefferies. Miss you guy's. I guess it's OK to call them guys now, they Commander Dobler and Capt Mitchell were a great influene on my life. I continued on as driver for Commander MacCall temporarily and then Commander Lowery. Thinking back these were all a pleasure to work with and an honor to know. I had the experience of going to traffic court (me the Captains driver) with Lt Commander Jokella. Played tackle football in the barracks hall with Yogi, was that funny. Cooked bacon on the radiators during the typhoon, got sick on that it was still raw when we ate it. Thanks Yogi for that. Miss all of you. Give me a shout anytime either my business email or my personal. joe@CIflorida.com or joezack@msn.com.

Earl, we will not miss the next reunion. We ave too many sea stories to ponder over and certainly laugh about. I miss it, it was the best years of my life. Keep in touch.

I just wanted to pass along the passing of one of your Medical Officers... Mike "Doc" Mackan... he passed away on Nov 6 in Canton OH. Here is a small part of his obit.
"From 1976 to 1978 he was a Medical Officer with the U.S. Naval Medical Corps where he was stationed with the Naval Construction Forces, Indian Ocean; and the Atlantic Alert Battalion, Europe. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and the Naval Expeditionary Medal and was a member of the Seabees, Battalion 1313. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Akron City Hospital where he went on to become the Chief Resident; he received the 'Hoyt Award' for best research co-author; and in 1980, he received the 'Teacher of the Year Award, Residency Program.' He worked as an Emergency Medicine attending physician at both Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals until his retirement in 2006
